Electronic Vaccination Forecast & Analysis (EVA)

EVA is a knowledge-based system, developed by Amzi! inc., which is designed specifically for the encoding and deployment of vaccination historical analysis and forecast knowledge. It is currently used under the name VacLogic™ in the Office Practicum™ Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software where it consistently scores top marks in benchmarks for vaccination analysis and forecasting.

EVA is distinguished by the ease with which it handles:

• New and changing vaccination knowledge (e.g. RotaVirus, MMRV, HPV, H1N1),
• Complex missed and late start schedules (e.g. PCV, Hib),
• Combination and combination of combination vaccines (e.g. MMRV, various combos of DTaP, Hep, HIB and IPV like Pediarix™), and
• Interrelated constraints (e.g. live virus constraints).

EVA tools include:

• A declarative Excel-based knowledge specification language easily understood by vaccine experts, not programmers,
• Full Excel-based testing capability to ensure accuracy in the future as changes are introduced, and
• An export capapility and application program interface (API) for deployment in most any computing environment (e.g. Java, .NET, Delphi, VB, C++).

A video demonstration of a very simple knowledge base, being a single vaccine that is given in a single dose at birth. This simple case illustrates many of the basic capabilities of EVA.

H1N1

Support for the H1N1 vaccine was implemented within hours after the knowledge was available. Because the definitions, tables and rules of EVA are independently specified for each vaccine, it was a relatively simple matter to clone the infant influenza rules to handle the H1N1 rules.

The infant influenza rules are made complex by the requirement to reason over dates and the bounds of flu seasons.
