May 6, 1996 - Stow, MA--WebLS is a Common Gateway Interfacing (CGI) application that allows you to embed logic-bases in web sites. These logic-bases can answer user’s support questions, recommend configurations, diagnose problems, give advice, etc. With the amount of information on the web growing exponentially, and more people turning to it for answers, WebLS, and other intelligent web components, will be called upon to help users find them.
To use WebLS all you need is a text editor, a web browser and a Windows-based web server that has a CGI or Windows-CGI compliant interface. Logic-bases are maintained in a plain text file in a declarative ‘language’ that is specially designed to implement these kinds of systems.
Logic-bases consist of facts that are gathered from the user, rules that determine a recommendation from the facts and a means to display the recommendation. The user interacts with WebLS via a series of generated HTML forms. Recommendations can be generated HTML text or links to existing HTML documents, allowing the logic-base to act like an intelligent agent or web over existing data.
WebLS is a freeware application built with Amzi! Prolog + Logic Server, which is a system for building intelligent components to embed in languages such as C/C++, Visual Basic and Delphi, and in tools such as web servers, Access and Excel. It includes full documentation, samples and source code (the latter can be used by Amzi! customers to tailor WebLS to their specific needs). WebLS can be used for implementing small to medium sized logic-bases. Amzi! is building its own on-line technical support with WebLS. You can try it out at Amzi!’s web site at http://www.amzi.com.
