Amzi! Adopts the Open Source Eclipse IDE

July 2, 2003 - Lebanon, OH—-Amzi! is pleased to announce that is has adopted the Eclipse IDE for its flagship product, Amzi! Prolog + Logic Server. Eclipse is an open source project supported by industry leaders such as IBM, Borland and RedHat. It is a state-of-the-art Integrated Development Environment that provides all the modern conveniences such as syntax coloring in the editor, source file outlining, source-level debugging, and seamless integration with source control systems.

The source code debugger, with stack frame views, provides the clearest possible understanding of a running Prolog program." said Dennis Merritt, head of product development about the decision to adopt Eclipse.

The Amzi! extensions for Eclipse provide the following features:

The ability to run and debug both interpreted and compiled Prolog code.
Full source code debugging showing variable bindings at each level in the call stack. This is especially valuable in Prolog because programs run forwards and backwards and variables are rebound to new values.
Full source code debugging of Prolog components embedded in other languages and tools, and those running on remote machines. Since Amzi! specializes in embedding Prolog components, this feature will be invaluable for those wanting to adding intelligent logicbases to conventional programs and web servers.
Syntax coloring in the editor to highlight built-in predicates, strings and comments.
Source file outliner and project cross referencer.
Source code bookmarks to indicate the locations of errors, to-do items, search text and more.
Automatic loading of Prolog libraries and Logic Server extensions in the Prolog listener (interpreter).

The Amzi! Eclipse IDE is now in beta test and can be downloaded from www.amzi.com/download. A final release is expected later this year.
