Amzi! shared the award with co-developers Science Applications Intl. Corp. and the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. The award was presented on the mall in Washington, D.C. and the project materials have been accepted into the Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection of Information Technology. The permanent collection, established in 1989, is the world's premier historical record of computing applications and innovations. The Breast Cancer Decision Guide (www.bcdg.org) is a Web site designed to assist breast cancer patients and their families in medical decision-making. The Guide provides users with personalized information that can improve their understanding of a specific diagnosis and the treatment options. Read more about how WebLS was used to develop the guide at http://www.amzi.com/bcpath_pcai.htm [2] New WebLS Version 3.1 Now Available --------------------------------------- WebLS version 3.1 is now available for download from ftp://ftp.amzi.com/share/WEBLS31.ZIP. This is the same version the Breast Cancer Decision Guide is using. One major enhancement gives the analysis module the ability to group results by fact name/value pairs. This allows you to gain a much better understanding of the usage of your WebLS logic-bases. A number of small enhancements give you complete control over the format of the advice displayed to the user. Also, error reporting is much improved, hopefully providing clear guidance when a logic-base fails. And, a serious problem with cookies was also fixed. The source code for WebLS is available under a no-charge license to registered users of Amzi! Prolog + Logic Server. Contact us on www.amzi.com for further information. Prolog & WebLS Applications ----------------------------------------------------------- "Cutting the Guillotine Down to Size", from PC AI Magazine, Jan/Feb 99 describes how PaperCon Corp. of Atlanta, Georgia used Amzi! Prolog to create a program that computes layouts for specialty paper cutting. "The Navigator" by Linton Weeks from the Washington Post, Thursday, June 10, 1999; Page C04 describes the use of WebLS in the Breast Cancer Decision Guide: "Can the Internet really help us make decisions? More and more Web sites are popping up to guide us through the rocky rapids of decision-making. ... There is at least one serious use of decision-making technology on the Internet: a well-thought-out site created for military personnel by the Department of Defense. At the Breast Cancer Decision Guide, interactive consultations are available for women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and for anyone who is concerned about them." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Amzi! inc.
