Prolog + Logic Server 6.1 Beta Test Release -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amzi! 6.1 is now available for download and testing. The 6.1.x series of releases are test versions of the software. Once stable, the release will be named 6.2. 6.1 is a work in progress. The 6.1.17 release includes: - A new dynamic database with ISO module support. - Improved dynamic database performance. - Infinite precision numbers - A C-style preprocessor 6.1 will continue to evolve with more features, bug fixes, and enhancements as a result of your feedback. The 6.1.x series of releases are experimental/beta/test releases. They reflect our current internal development system. This means they are stable enough to run the boot-strapped portions of Amzi! (compiler, listener, debugger, IDE), and are stable enough for our KnowledgeWright product. But this does not mean we have tested other uses of the software, so we greatly appreciate any and all use of the software, and would like to see all bug reports, enhancement requests etc. posted to the support forum. See the news file in the 6.1 documentation for bug reporting details. 6.1 includes changes that will require some changes to your programs. These changes were made to ensure ISO standard compatibility. They include: - ISO module support, replacing old Amzi! modules. - Use of ` for delimiting strings, rather than $. ($ still supported on input). - Use of 0\' to indicate a character, rather than `. - Use of atom \'end_of_file\' for end of file, rather than \'!EOF\'. These changes need to be made before recompiling, or consulting your programs. One of the primary goals of 6.1 is to strengthen the product for multi-user server applications. We welcome any and all feedback on the software in those environments. See http://www.amzi.com/manuals/amzi6/whatsnew.htm for further details on the release. You can download 6.1 from http://www.amzi.com/download. Please report all 6.1 bugs, feature requests, gripes, compliments, etc. to the support forum on our website, checking to make sure the bug hasn\'t been previously reported and/or fixed. Please include in the heading: 6-1-N (where N is minor release number) Bug Report and brief description. In the text, describe: the environment you run under (Windows98, Linux, etc.) the tools you were using (Amzi! IDE, command line, Java interface, etc.) the exact indication of the problem (error messages, endless loop, etc.) the steps to take for us to reproduce the problem. If at all possible, please try to generate as simple a test case as possible that will reproduce the problem. If necessary, e-mail test files to www.amzi.com. Our thanks to all who help with the testing of this new release. If you purchased a commercial license for Amzi! 5.0 at its current list price (US$2500), you have been automatically enrolled in our new annual maintenance program, and are entitled to a 6.1 commercial serial number. We will be sending out those serial numbers shortly. If you would like to upgrade your 4.1/5.0 commercial license to 6.1, the cost is US$1000 and includes maintenance for the coming year. Amzi! 4.0 Professional users can upgrade to 6.1 for US$1500. You can e-mail your upgrade on www.amzi.com, fax it to +1-513-425-8025 or call us at 1-513-425-8050. [2] New Pricing and Maintenance Options -------------------------------------------------------------------------- With Amzi! 6.x and KnowledgeWright 4.x we are introducing an annual maintenance program. This means your commercial license automatically includes all releases for one year from your date of purchase. We have also lowered the cost for additional developer seats and additional runtime licenses to $1000 each. So you can add programmers for $1000 each and ship your applications on additional platforms for $1000 each. You can renew maintenance each year at a cost of 20% of the current list price for the products you have. For example, if you have one developer seat of Amzi! for Windows, the maintenance cost is $500 per year. If you have 2 developers plus Windows and Linux runtime licenses the maintenance is $900 per year (20% of the $4500 purchase price). Maintenance on additional developer seats and runtime licenses renews from the original purchase date of the base license.
